More SIG and SIZ file basics

Top  Previous  Next

This lesson introduces you to some more basic concepts by building on the simple system we developed in Lesson 1.

To open a previously saved SIG file

Lets open the SIG file we created in Lesson 1, called Lesson1.sig

1From the File menu, choose Open, Signal Rules, or click on the Open Existing Signal Rules icon on the Signal bar.

2Choose Lesson1.sig from the dialog box.  This file should be located in ..\Mechanica\Sample Rules\Signal Rules
3When a Signal Rules file is opened, Mechanica automatically loads all three (3) pages into the Rules Editor. Although we have yet to enter any exit code, you should see the code we entered in Lesson 1 appear on the Resources page, and on the Trade Entry page.

To open a previously saved SIZ file

1From the File menu, choose Open, Position Sizing Rules, or click on the appropriate icon on the Sizing toolbar.

2Choose Lesson1.siz from the dialog box. This file should be located in  ..\Mechanica\Sample Rules\Position Sizing Rules

Once the file is opened, note that Mechanica automatically loads both Sizing pages into the Rules Editor. (We have yet to enter any Resizing code, so this page will be blank.)

3From the File menu, choose Close, Position Sizing Rules (We will not be using this sizing file during the Lesson 2; the exercise was done to build familiarity with file operations in Mechanica.)

To save a SIG file to another name

1From the File menu, choose Save As, Signal Rules.
2Type: Lesson2        ...and press Save.
